We've ordered from Benito's quite a few times ... and they were absolutely earning a 5-star review ... and then there was a hiccup and we paused. Now, I'm undecided as to whether to rate this a 3 or 4-star joint. Funny, isn't it, how much of an impression one bad experience can leave you with? Was it an anomaly? Is this what inconsistency looks like in its early stage? Look, here's what happened in a nutshell ... we've always ordered a large, round pizza with ham, pineapple and yellow mild peppers ... can I just pause here and give the pizza with those toppings a standing ovation? Ok, that probably looked odd to anyone who saw me stand up just then and start clapping ... but honestly, that particular mix of toppings ... outstanding. Anyway, Benito's, for the first 5 or 6 pizzas we ordered never disappointed. Not too thin, not too thick, enough of all of the toppings, just enough sauce and maybe most importantly, cooked perfectly. Nothing can ruin a pizza ... good topping selection or not ... like a bad trip through the oven. Too long and it's gonna be tough chewing. Not long enough and no one likes gooey dough in the center. So these pizzas and the pasta dishes we'd ordered were always up to snuff, no complaints whatsoever. Until that one day. Same pizza, only a different result. Too thin on the dough, fewer toppings and ... you guessed it ... over-cooked. Either that or it had been left under a heat lamp for 12 days. Not good. We took a break from Benito's and hoped this wasn't a case of an establishment opening and giving it their best effort only to become popular and then get lazy or cheap on us. We thought that that was a distinct possibility. Until that one other day. We decided to risk it and give Benito's another shot, and lo and behold! A return to pizza prominence! All the things we loved about our initial experiences, we were reminded of and so ... here we are. Hopeful that it was simply a blip, a mirage, one tiny exception to the rule ... because I have to say, as good as they can be ... if you can count on getting a bad product once every 3 or 4 visits, those aren't food odds that I'm willing to accept. Here's hoping for a return to consistency.

Gave two stars because the pizza is decent but the service is bad. Placed a 3 pizza order when having family over and one of the pizzas was missing toppings. Called to let the know and the young man that answered didn't know what to say so he took my number and said he'd call right back. Never received a call and no answer when I called back. There are too many pizza placed near by with way better service, I will never be back. They have lost a repeat customer.

Placed a carryout over the phone. Girl taking the order wasn't familiar with their menu. Menu had a 10 piece chicken tender with fries meal for $8.99, she said they only had an 8 piece. Went there to pick up my order and I asked to see "their menu" which I pointed out had expired in February, the new online menu she had no idea about. So I was stuck with the 8 piece order. Order took 35 minutes rather than the promised time of 25 minutes that I was quoted over the phone. Food was good. Not too impressed with the employees or how it is operated

The food is delicious, and affordable, with some of the best calzones you will ever taste. They also serve great deserts including cake, soft serve, and scoop ice-cream. It's conveniently located across the street from the Jefferson Memorial park. Note it can be hard to find from the street because they are tucked behind the Parkview liquor store.
